| The Badger awoke in the middle of day, And stared at the sun from his bed that he lay, 'my alarm clock is rubbish, it never works right, i should be up in the middle of night' But shaking the clock, it jumped on the floor, Fell on it's hands and ran out the door, Over the step and over the ledge, Running for cover in a prickly hedge After a few hours of sitting alone, The clock was still missing and not returned home, Worried and sad the Badger would search, Down by the river and up to the church It was starting to get dark with no one around, Where was the clock, it couldn't be found, Sitting back home with some tea and a bun, The Badger thought back to their times having fun Suddenly a face at the window appeared, There was the clock disguised in a beard, Side to side and trying to rock, As it luminous hands were jiggling the lock After a few moments the clock was inside, Looking around for somewhere to hide, He climbed down the curtain as the ledge was to steep, And noticed the Badger deep in his sleep, He thought of the old tea pot that sat on the shelf, A wonderful place of hiding himself, He positioned the tea pot as to easily get out, And sat watching the Badger through the cracked spout The clock was so sleepy, the room just a haze, But that smell, that's smoke, the room was ablaze! A hot glowing log had rolled out of the fire, Burning the carpet, flames dancing higher Wanting the Badger to come to no harm, The clock tried to set off his ringing alarm, Out of the teapot the clock tried to squeeze, Letting out groans and occasional wheeze He stood on the shelf and with a great gulp of air, And grabing the curtain swung to the chair, His hands working quickly and gathering pace, As he climbed on the Badger and stopped by his face Jumping up and down and starting to cough, The clock's alarm suddenly went off, Quickly waking from his comfy warm seat, The Badger was up and onto his feet Seeing the smoke and flames on the floor, He picked up the clock and ran towards the door, Out of the door he let out a yell, While grabbing two buckets that stood by the well The bellowing smoke was seen through the wood, As folk came running to help all they could, They carried buckets of water through the front door, As they fought the fire that raged on the floor Twenty minutes later the fire was out, As everyone let out a rapturous shout, The Badger hugged the clock 'we're both ok, It's really been a hectic day, It's amazing your alarm worked in the end, Thank-you for being such a really true friend' 'A brave little clock was a hero that night, Despite the fire never lost sight, He knew true friends were extremely rare, And when his friend was in trouble he was there' |
